Reset Microsoft Authenticator for Your Highlands College Account
Use this guide to remove your Highlands College account from Microsoft Authenticator and reconnect it to your phone.
You will need both your mobile phone and a secondary device, such as a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet, to complete the reset.
Before You Begin
Make Sure You Have Both Devices Available
- Your mobile phone
- A secondary device, such as a computer or tablet
- Your Highlands College email address
- Your Highlands College password
- An active internet connection
Step-by-Step Video Guide
A video tutorial can be added here to provide a visual walkthrough of the reset process.
Step 1: Remove Your Account from Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- Locate your Highlands College email account in the list of saved accounts.
- Select your Highlands College account, then select the Settings or gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Remove Account, then choose Remove from this device and This app only when prompted.
- If prompted, select Cancel, then select Ignore to complete the removal process. You should return to the Microsoft Authenticator home screen.
Important
Removing the account from the Microsoft Authenticator app does not delete your Highlands College account. It only removes the existing Authenticator connection from your phone.
Step 2: Start Microsoft Authenticator Setup Again
- On your secondary device, go to Office.com and sign in using your Highlands College email address and password.
- When the More information required screen appears, select Next.
- If you are asked whether you want to stay signed in, select Yes.
- Microsoft will prompt you to download the Microsoft Authenticator app. Since the app is already installed on your phone, select Next.
- On the Set up your account screen, select Next.
- A QR code, or a button labeled Show QR code, will appear. Leave this screen open on your secondary device.
Keep the QR Code Visible
Do not close or refresh the QR code screen. You will need to scan it using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
Step 3: Reconnect Your Account in Microsoft Authenticator
- On your phone, return to the Microsoft Authenticator home screen.
- Select the plus sign (+) or Add account.
- Select Work or school account.
- Select Scan QR code, then use the camera inside Microsoft Authenticator to scan the QR code displayed on your secondary device.
Step 4: Test the Configuration
- After the QR code has been scanned, return to your secondary device and select Next.
- Microsoft will send a test notification to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- Open Microsoft Authenticator and enter the number displayed on your secondary device, then approve the sign-in request.
Step 5: Complete the Setup
- After approving the test notification, return to your secondary device.
- Select Next to confirm that the test was successful.
- Select Done to complete the Microsoft Authenticator setup.
